Have you ever tried making a technical presentation to an audience and lost them after a while. Whether talking about ion implantation, bites, charts, statistics, presenting technical information can certainly be challenging. This course is designed for anyone who needs to present technical information to audiences with varying degree of the technical knowledge or to non technical audiences. Learners will learn techniques to make a lively and persuasive presentation to achieve an end target.

Outline

1. What makes technical presentation different
Presenting technical presentations comes with its own set of challenges. The workshop starts with a discussion with the learners what challenges they may face with technical presentations.

2. What makes up a technical presentation
This looks at what makes an exceptional technical presentation. It looks into how to create interesting introduction, logical flow of ideas and compelling conclusions of a presentation.

3. Understanding the audience
Different audiences will have different requirements and needs. The learner will look into the different audiences eg senior management, fellow engineers, etc and how to adapt the presentation to suit the different customers. There will also be discussion with the learners on why understanding an audience is important in a presentation.

4. Designing effective Presentation Slides
This segment will look into the different power point tools and what to use, what not to use or overuse. It will also discuss the do’s and don’ts in presentation.

5. Connect with the people
Many people are afraid of standing in front of the audience to do a presentation. This segment will discuss what you can do to overcome your fears and maintain confidence. It also touches on verbal and non verbal languages and fillers that we may unconsciously use. How you can be more aware of them and what you can do to avoid them. Handling questions and difficult audience

6. Practice Time
Now that we have gone through what is important for technical presentation. There will be opportunity for live practices for the learners.

Armed with a BSC (Hons) from the National University of Singapore, a MBA from the University of Hull and an Advanced Certificate for Training and Assessment (ACTA) by Institute of Adult learning (IAL), Agnes Lim has more than 30 years of corporate experience in the biomedical industry of which 20 years were in middle and senior management.

Adept at people management, she has more than 20 years experience in hiring, managing, training and developing staff and more than 10 years experience in succession planning at the site leadership level. She is able to connect with people across different levels in the organisation having worked up the levels in her career. She has conducted more than 300 interviews ranging from junior management staff to site leadership team members to scholarship aspirants at her previous companies.

Being in a technical department, Agnes is equally well versed in technical report writing and technical presentation, having created and reviewed many thousands of technical reports and presentations throughout her career.

Agnes has developed and conducted numerous trainings and coached learners on both technical and soft skills.
