"If your emotional abilities aren’t in hand, if you don’t have self-awareness, if you are not able to manage your distressing emotions, if you can’t have empathy and have effective relationship, then no matter how smart you are, you are not going to get very far." Daniel Goleman

Why is it that some people are able to strive effectively in times of hardship whereas others succumb to the trials and tribulations that life throws at us? The secret lies in the way we handle such unfortunate eventualities in our mind’s eye. Emotional intelligence describes the ability to understand your own feelings and that of groups and how these emotions can influence and dictate your behaviour, feelings and thought processes. The concept of Emotional Intelligence is not new and have been around for at least the last 2000 years. The Analects of Confucius speaks of emotional intelligence when he said: "To put the world in order, we must first put the nation in order, to put the nation in order, we must first put the family in order, to put the family in order, we must first cultivate our personal life, we must first set our hearts right." In modern times the term was first introduced by Wayne Payne in 1985 and subsequently it was popularized and gained momentum after the publication of Daniel Goleman’s best seller Emotional Intelligence: Why it Can Matter More Than IQ.

This workshop will guide you through the process of learning and applying your in-built sense of emotional intelligence. The concept of emotional intelligence is not about being emotional in the light of the mood that you are in but rather having the right intelligence as to why you feel in a certain way and being wise in re-channelling your emotional responses to a given situation objectively. This will certainly make you a powerful individual and someone to be respected and taken seriously. Having a higher level of emotional intelligence will also allow you to become more focus on creating meaningful relationship which will ensure that your actions are intended to take into consideration how others may feel in a particular situation and then acting accordingly. In practicing emotional intelligence you will become good at managing conflicts, crises and other kinds of recurrent issues that has a tendency to cloud our rationale judgements objectively.
